WHat “Low Ferritin” is trying to tell you.
Iron Deficiency — Or Something Deeper?
Low iron levels are incredibly common among women today.
But common does not mean normal.
And it certainly doesn’t mean the solution is to simply take an iron supplement and move on.
So what should you do?
Looking Beyond the Standard Blood Test
If your primary care provider tells you that your iron is low or that you are anemic, this is often based on a marker called hemoglobin.
While hemoglobin is important, it only tells a small part of the story.
A marker that is frequently overlooked — but absolutely essential — is ferritin.
Ferritin reflects your iron storage levels, giving deeper insight into what is actually happening beneath the surface. This is a marker you should always request during routine bloodwork.
When ferritin is low, your body is not simply “lacking iron.”
It is signaling that something deeper is going on.
The Body Is Not Broken — It Is Adapting
When the gut becomes compromised and the body is under stress — especially at the adrenal level — key minerals begin to shift.
One of the most important of these is copper, a mineral essential for:
immune defense
controlling bacteria, parasites, and fungi
proper iron metabolism
As copper becomes depleted or dysregulated, the internal environment changes — and pathogens are more able to take hold.
Here’s where the body does something incredibly intelligent:
Many pathogens rely on iron to grow and reproduce.
So instead of allowing iron to circulate freely, the body hides it in tissue — essentially making it unavailable.
This is protective.
However, over time, this leads to iron dysregulation.
Even though iron is present in the body, it becomes biounavailable — meaning your body cannot properly use it.
Left unresolved, stored iron can begin to oxidize, creating stress within tissues — much like metal rusting over time.
Why Supplementing Iron Often Backfires
From a conventional perspective, low iron is often treated as a simple deficiency.
The common recommendation: take iron supplements.
But what happens next?
Ferritin levels may barely improve
Symptoms persist — or even worsen
Why?
Because in many cases, you are not addressing a deficiency —
you are working against the body’s protective response.
If pathogens are present, supplementing iron may actually be fueling the very issue your body is trying to contain.
The Better Question to Ask
Instead of asking:
“How do I raise my iron?”
Ask:
Why is my body hiding iron?
What is driving this imbalance?
Where are my minerals depleted or dysregulated?
What is happening in my gut?
This is where real healing begins.
The Power of Testing: Getting Your Answers
This is why functional testing is so important.
Rather than guessing, we look directly at your data.
Two of the most valuable tools here are:
Hair Tissue Mineral Analysis (HTMA) → to assess mineral balance and patterns
GI Stool Map Testing → to uncover infections, bacteria, and gut dysfunction
Together, these provide a complete picture of what your body is navigating.
Because no two people are the same —
and your healing should never be based on guesswork.
Where This Fits Into The FLOW Method
This is exactly where my FLOW Method comes into play.
Because the body doesn’t heal in isolation — it heals in sequence.
F — Foundations: Supporting minerals, nourishment, and nervous system stability
L — Load: Reducing the burden on the body (pathogens, toxins, stress)
O — Open: Supporting drainage pathways like the liver, gut, and lymphatic system
W — Work: Targeted, individualized protocols based on your unique results
Iron dysregulation is not just an iron issue —
it is a FLOW issue.
When the body is not flowing properly, symptoms appear.
When flow is restored, the body can finally regulate and heal.
A Different Way Forward
Low iron is not something to ignore —
but it is also not something to oversimplify.
Your body is not failing you.
It is communicating with you.
When you understand why it is happening,
you can finally move forward with clarity — not confusion.
How to Work With Me
If you are experiencing low iron, fatigue, hormonal imbalances, or unresolved symptoms, the next step is not guessing — it’s testing.
Inside my practice, we use functional testing to uncover:
mineral imbalances
gut dysfunction
hidden stress patterns in the body
From there, we build a personalized plan using the FLOW Method to restore balance at the root.
This is how you stop chasing symptoms —
and start creating real, lasting change.
If you’re ready to understand your body on a deeper level and get real answers, you can apply to work with me.
